fabulis raises additional seed funding from David Bohnett, founder of GeoCities

Hi everyone.  Jason Goldberg, founder and CEO of fabulis authoring this post with some funding news.

We’ve been so busy working on a set of major updates to the fabulis product that I totally forgot to write anything about our closing an additional round of seed financing.  Oops!

Alright, so here’s the scoop.  David Bohnett, an openly gay man (we like that!), an active philanthropist for gay causes, an avid technology investor with his firm Baroda Ventures, and the former founder of GeoCities (which helped define a big part of web 1.0), has joined fabulis as an investor.  David joins us because he’s really excited about what we’re building at fabulis and the potential it has for creating a really positive and valuable space for gay men and their friends.  And we’re thrilled he’s decided to work with us.  David joins our existing investors, myself, The Washington Post Company, Lars Hinrichs, Allen Morgan, Don Baer, and some other associates of mine in investing in fabulis.  That brings our total funds raised to date to $825,000.  Not a huge amount of money given the size of the opportunity we are going after, but nothing to scoff at either.

Owen Thomas has the scoop on the financing over at Venture Beat.

fabulis will continue to use our funds primarily for building the fabulis product.  We are trying to build the social network that helps gay men discover where to go, what to do, and who to meet.  We’re still in the very early days of that, but things are coming along nicely.  Our belief is that we will succeed with our business if we succeed at developing a product that our users love and rely on.

Cheers for now.
