Announcing the first fabulis financing
We’re thrilled to announce that fabulis has closed our first round of seed financing today. We raised $625,000.00 in this initial round.
Our 2010 goals, which will be enabled by this financing, are to
- Launch fabulis this spring simultaneously on the web and on the iPhone
- Quickly establish fabulis as the network that connects gay men with great experiences down the block and around the world
- Rapidly improve and enhance fabulis based on input from our users.
Participating in the financing:
- fabulis’ founder and chief executive officer, Jason Goldberg
- The Washington Post Company. Previously invested in Goldberg’s prior company, socialmedian.
- Allen Morgan, angel investor and Venture Partner at Mayfield Fund. Also invested in socialmedian and in Goldberg’s first startup, Jobster (now operating as Recruiting.com)
- Lars Hinrichs, angel investor at Cinco Capital. Previously founder and CEO of XING AG, which acquired socialmedian in 2009.
- Don Baer, Worldwide Vice Chairman of communications strategy firm Burson-Marsteller. Investor in socialmedian.
- Additional socialmedian investors.
fabulis’ founder, Jason Goldberg, said of the financing: “Is it too cute to say that this is ‘fabulis news?’ So be it. This is fabulis news! We’re one step closer towards fulfilling our long term vision of being the lifestyle brand that gay men around the world rely on to help them celebrate life.”
We’re also excited to announce that Allen Morgan is joining fabulis as principal advisor to fabulis’ ceo, Jason Goldberg, and that Richard Socarides is joining fabulis as Chairman of the outside Advisory Board. Socarides, an attorney, served as Bill Clinton’s advisor for gay and lesbian issues, and has held senior positions in several media companies.
So, you’re probably wondering, “what is it?” We speak to that in this blog post below. It’ll be a website and a mobile service that helps gay men discover and share where to go, what to do, and who to meet. It’ll help you figure out what restaurant to go to, which shop to check out, which bar everyone is going to tonight, who you can meet while visiting another city, and much more. Basically, it’s the gay take on life. Spotting trends. Making plans. Meeting people.
